Describe Yourself

peterbrock.jpg

We need descriptions of people, and things, for various reasons...one of them is simply identification. You need to know the face of the story....

Peter Brock is a famous Australian Racing Car driver, and he is often pictured on magazine covers. The Cover Picture tells you there is a story about the person inside the magazine, so you buy the magazine to read the story.

If you are talking to someone on a phone or on a chatline and they ask you what you look like...what will you say? They cannot see you, and have to ask you what you look like.

If you are meeting someone to deliver or collect a parcel or package, how will you describe yourself? How will you find the person?

If you are meeting a stranger at the Railway Station or the Airport, how will they know who you are? What information will you give the person who is meeting the person?

Your mother wants to know what your best friend looks like, how will you describe them to her?

The Police are searching for a thief, and they have this description...how will they describe a thief for identification?

TASK:
  • Create a Picture for a Magazine cover
  • Write a story for the Picture
  • who is going to reads your story? Focus it to the reader.

In Pairs, or Group Work:

Questions can be asked in their home language, but questions must be answered in English if possible.

What color are your eyes?
What color is your hair?
How tall are you?
Are you fat or thin?
What hairstyle do you have?
Is your hair long?
What are you wearing?
Are you wearing shoes?
Are you wearing jewellery?
Do you have any tattoos or marks?

As a group, make a list of more questions you would ask someone about their appearance......
