Drawing horses is easy for the student who understands the elements of Anatomy...

I used the simple method of stick figures for helping students master the drawing and painting of horses.
 
In the same way as you first draw the stick figure inside the human figure and then fill it out, students can be taught how to use the same method with animals.
They very quickly adapt to putting riders on the horses as a very natural follow-up.
 
Stick figure outlines of horses can be very easily filled in using a sponge to apply paint starting with the lighter areas and then finishing with the shades and shadows.
