Excursions are valuable experiences and need to be in every Educational Program

City Excursions....(Free or as near to Free as can be).

I once wrote a booklet called '100 free excursions walking distance from our city school'. I  will do my best to remember as many of these as possible.
Excursions are valuable for their Outcome Based Inbuilt to Course Value and also as a bonding and friendship link between a teacher and the students. Teachers who don't take their classes on excursions are losing a valuable part of their relationship with their students.
I hate not being able to go on excursions.

Dream Excursions that involve overnight trips

Overnight stays are popular

  • Historical places which have buildings from a past are particularly exciting...and night visits are memorable for more than just the learning Outcome.
  • Sleeping under the skies is wonderful...tents and lean tos and campfires.
  • Ships, cruise boats and overnight on the water or near the water is enjoyable. I remember the Lord Somers Camp and the Phillip Island Camp run by an exclusive private school and hosted by senior students.
  • Dormitories and Camping grounds...I remember the camp at Healesville where parents came with their student children and an Army Camp
  • Universities and student accommodation...and also research and Training camps where students used facilities and toured from a central location.
  • Overseas trip...packages now available from most travel agents that can be fundraised for.
  • Sister schools and overseas links and school based accommodation. I remember sleeping in the school library with my class.
  • Artist camps and art trips.
  • Bush treks and bush walking.

Country Excursions...( A bus may be required as often walking to locations is just not possible.)

There are still many excursions that are walking distance fromn a school, but bear in mind that a remote locality will need transport. I used parents and ran weekend excursions at one school to overcome this problem and met students at different locations. Its up to the teachers to do the best they can within school restrictions. I often use the internet for cyber travel today when excursions are just not possible for some reason.
